AI Autofill lets you automatically generate the content of your cards.
Activating AI Autofill
- Click the button next to a field in the card list table.
- Select AI Autofill. A dialog opens.
- Toggle Activate AI Autofill.
Configuring AI Autofill
Rich content & plain text fields
Text fields can be generated automatically with AI. There are three types of AI Autofill:
- Answer: Generates a short answer to a question contained in another field. Make sure the source field is in the form of a question to get a relevant result.
- Translation: Translates a field into the selected languages. It automatically detects the source language.
- Custom Instruction: Generates anything you wish from one or several other fields, following your own prompt.
All text generation is powered by OpenAI's gpt-6-sol model.
Audio fields
Audio fields can be generated automatically with Text-to-Speech. The language must be specified to ensure correct pronunciation.
Image fields
You can also use Image Generation to illustrate your cards. You must provide a prompt that describes what you want to see in the image and in which style.
Image generation is powered by OpenAI's gpt-image-2.5-sunburst model.
Generating values
A field value can be generated on two occasions.
When you create a card.
When you ask for all values of a field to be regenerated.
When you modify the AI Autofill configuration of a field, you're asked whether you want to regenerate it in all cards.
You can also regenerate a field at any time by clicking the button next to it, then Regenerate.
Dynamic values
Fields using a Custom Instruction can have a Dynamic value. A new value is then generated every time the card comes up in a review, so you never see the same one twice. This is useful for generating example sentences, to reinforce learning in varied contexts.
When a field has a dynamic value, the dependent text and audio fields are regenerated with it. For example, if you have a dynamic field that generates a sentence, the translation and audio fields will be regenerated with the new sentence. However, dependent image fields can't be generated dynamically.
Dynamic values are colored and highlighted in the card so you can identify them. The generated values are not saved: the card keeps its original content.
Each generation counts toward your AI Autofill quota. During a review, you can turn dynamic values on and off by clicking the button, then Dynamic cards.
AI usage quotas
Text and audio generations count toward a monthly AI Autofill quota. Users on the free plan have a limit of 200 generations per month. Users on the Pro plan can use it without limit.
Because they cost significantly more, image generations are counted separately. When you sign up, you get 3 free image generation credits. You can purchase more if you need them.
